Hypothermia in trauma situations is a major and ongoing challenge for emergency responders, even when the outside temperature is high. Studies indicate that a simple emergency blanket is not always enough, and that its effectiveness can be enhanced by an active heat source, such as a properly placed hand warmer. Combining hand warmers with a properly positioned thermal blanket is a simple way to maintain or slightly increase body temperature.
